Sun's African mission
Singaporean singer Stephanie Sun Yan Zi recently returned from an eight-day field trip to Africa with World Vision Taiwan, visiting underprivileged families, HIV/Aids orphans and the community development done by the charity in Congo.
The singer (right) urged the public to donate money to ease the food crisis in Africa. 'They need a lot of help,' Sun said.
It was the second time the 27-year-old had visited a developing country in a charity role. Last year she went to Calcutta in India. She said she didn't cry when she saw the desperate images, saying that it only strengthened her resolve to help.
'The situation there is unbelievable. Living in Taiwan and Singapore, we're confident our future is in our own hands. But in Africa, you might be HIV positive from the day you're born and you can't really control your destiny. It's totally different [from here].'
