Kiddy Cheung (Sai Lo Cheung in Chinese) 1947

Commissioned by a local newspaper, it was immensely popular when the mainland was wracked by civil war. Yuan focused on adult issues and injustices through the eyes of a child. The comic was adapted for the big screen in 1950, with a six-year-old Bruce Lee among the cast.

The series marked a new chapter for local comics: it was the first to adopt a modern setting, and dealt with current issues through the war hero Uncle Choi.
