What is it?
A lactic acid-based facial using products from June Jacobs, a US range created by a co-founder of the popular Peter Thomas Roth skincare brand (with Thomas Roth). Jacobs' products, which are new to Hong Kong, use high concentrations of plant extracts and active ingredients such as retinol and lactic acid, which gently sloughs off dead cells. Her creams are luxuriously soothing for those with dry, sensitive or sun-damaged skin. Jacobs worked with several New York plastic surgeons and dermatologists before going off on her own.
What's good about the facial?
The therapist gives you a long facial massage (starting with a slow, relaxing head and neck rub) before treating your skin. It's designed as a gentle skin-renewing treatment, and starts with a deep exfoliation using lactic acid, which is derived from milk and infused with anti-oxidant pomegranate extract to stimulate cell renewal (effective for skin with hyper pigmentation and scarring). This is followed by another facial massage, using a cucumber massage cream. Then, there's a cranberry and pomegranate moisture mask to re-hydrate your skin. It's finished off with an application of a raspberry recovery serum, which is said to protect skin from pollution and free-radical damages. The massage involves the neck, chest and face. There were no harsh extractions, steam or stinging face mask. It's a gentle facial, and the products soothed my skin.
How long was the facial?
About 75 minutes. The therapist spends much of this time concentrating on massaging the eye and cheekbone area, which is always a bonus for those who are tired and hoping to get a lift from their facial.
