The first couple to get married at a time and place of their choice under the amended marriage law will do so next week - at the InterContinental Hotel, Tsim Sha Tsui.
Roger Lee Shiu-fung and Florence Lee Nga-fong said the choice was a compromise.
'I'm a Christian but my fiancee is not, so it'd be quite difficult to marry in a church,' Mr Lee said.
'As the hotel has a huge staircase, it allows us to march in like having a wedding in the church. It'll be a more special wedding which combines the format of a marriage in a church and a solemn registry-style.'
The couple plans to hold their wedding next Saturday with one of the civil celebrants appointed yesterday.
'[We] are excited that we may be the first to get marry under the new law ... And it's also more romantic,' Mr Lee said. Holding the wedding banquet on the same evening, Mr Lee said the new civil celebrant service was more convenient because they could avoid the rush of getting married at the busy registry offices.
