If Alice In Wonderland was not bizarre or psychedelic enough for you, try checking out playwright Rob Wellington's comedic musical Dream On, staged tonight as dinner theatre at Post 97. A teacher by day, Wellington's variation on Lewis Carroll's book, co-written with Linda McKinlay, makes the fantasy even more fantastic, giving it a more adult bite with added parody.
In the new version (cast pictured), Alice is now a Bridget Jonesesque spinster, living at home and immersed in romance novels. One night, she falls for a knight in a dream, then tries to fall back asleep to return to the strange, magical world of her paramour.
'She's a bit of a loser, but so is the knight, actually' explains Wellington. 'I wanted to write something, as I had read most of the Lewis Carroll books as a child. I wrote the music for the performance as well, which was fun.' If you miss tonight's performance at 8pm, you have a second chance on Tuesday, May 16. The Brimboria Theatre Group will re-stage the show at the Fringe later in May.
