Fung turns lens on his life
Actor-director Stephen Fung Tak-lun hopes to help the local movie industry by introducing audiences to different film techniques through his new sitcom.
'I've always wondered why local movies couldn't be as diversified as in some foreign countries,' said the filmmaker (Enter the Phoenix and House of Fury). 'Many directors here want to try something new, but they don't have the opportunities because of the worry that local audiences won't accept it.'
Fung (left) has produced a new weekly comedy for local station TVB. The 11-episode Stephen's Diary, which began last week, depicts moments in Fung's daily life. There is no script, and he aims to blur the line between fantasy and reality by using a mixture of movie actors such as Shu Qi, Josie Ho Chiu-yee and Sam Lee Chan-sum and amateurs.
'TV is a good channel to introduce audiences to different filming styles because it has the largest group of viewers.'
'If they can accept this kind of sitcom, they can accept it in movies.'
