The Landmark Mandarin Oriental is seeking experienced staff for many of its departments
ANYONE ATTRACTED to a career where there are chances to progress from washing dishes to managing a fine dining restaurant, with a stint at serving tables thrown in, should find that the hospitality sector is awash with possibilities.
Hong Kong's hotel industry is growing fast and is also undergoing changes. The sheer growth of the sector, coupled with a shortage of high-quality people, has led to employers offering attractive recruitment packages to get the right employees.
Despite the high demand for staff, jobs are not exactly there for the taking. Employers are increasingly looking for skilled staff they can invest in, offering high-quality training programmes and other incentives as part of a long-term employment package.
Eight months after its opening, the Landmark Mandarin Oriental has launched a recruitment drive to attract front-of-house staff, housekeeping employees, experienced food and beverage employees and kitchen staff with some experience. Additional people are required to cope with a workload generated by a consistent 90 per cent occupancy rate.
Cynthia Leong, director of human resources at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental, said career prospects in the hotel sector continued to grow.
