His debut album may not have made him a mega-star, but now singer-songwriter Louis Cheung Kai-chung is back with a follow up.
On the self-titled work, released yesterday, he tackles subjects such as the value of love and the importance of honesty.
'The new album is like my CV,' said the 26-year-old (right), who will showcase the songs at a karaoke lounge in Causeway Bay on May 28. 'On the last album, I talked about where I was from. This time, I talk about who I really am.'
The response from DJs and fans to Cheung's debut, To Be or Not To Be, was encouraging, and he won bronze in the best male newcomer category in Commercial Radio's awards this year.
He's hoping his sophomore album will get an equally warm reception. 'Music, theatre and other creative works are good media for me to express what I feel,' said Cheung, an acting graduate from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. 'Although it's hard to be completely honest in society,
I think you need to be when writing music. If not, you're just writing an ordinary pop song with no soul and can't touch people.'
