Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker aside, the cultural gap between Asians and Africans may not be as wide as you think. An exhibition starting today at the artist's commune at To Kwa Wan's Cattle Depot Artist Village aims to explore the connections and perceptions of the two races. D'Asie d'Afrique, curated by Koan Jeff Baysa (left), confronts stereotypes with a collection of video and other artworks. 'There are economic and social links between these two peoples,' says Hawaii-based Dr Baysa. 'So this show is a hybrid that will show there can be a kinship between cultures we wouldn't ordinarily put together. We're hoping to surprise visitors by showing them just how much Asia and Africa have that can be connected through art.' Heck, just look at how many Chinese kids want to be rappers, and how many hip hop artists want to be Shaolin kung fu masters. The exhibition runs at 63 Ma Tau Kok Road, Kowloon, until June 28.
