Mid-Levels bar McSorley's Ale House was officially opened last Thursday with a wee celebration and a free-flowing tap. Not surprisingly, the lads kept the draft flowing all night - or at least until 9pm when you had to start paying.

The two-level venture was opened by Clayton Parker's Eclipse Management with a couple of minority directors including Peter Klimenko, who told us the luck of the Irish has been with them so far.

'We managed to get this space at reasonable rent, and with Dublin Jack closing, there's no other real pub now in the area. So, it's been great, especially now with the World Cup on,' he said.

The name, of course, comes from the famous bar near Wall Street.

As for the bold claim about being Soho's first and only Irish pub, no word on whether the Globe is putting up a technical argument about that.
