Actress Cecilia Cheung Pak-chi found herself the target of revived paparazzi attention after acknowledging that she and Nicholas Tse Ting-fung are an item again. Although she might find the media frustrating, she has support from fans.
When Cheung showed up at a cosmetic brand's press event at Langham Place in Mongkok this week, fans of the star and Tse (both below) swamped the shopping mall, waving banners with messages such as 'Cecilia loves Nic', 'Nic loves Cecilia' and 'Nic's girlfriend'.
'I'm really touched. I didn't think Ting-fung's fans in Hong Kong would be so supportive. I was in Shanghai a few days ago. There were about 100 Tse fans to welcome me. They even hired a vehicle to follow me around,' said the 26-year-old. 'I thought it would happen on the mainland, but I never expected this in Hong Kong.'
The couple split up three years ago, when Tse reunited with his ex-girlfriend Faye Wong. However, the actor and Wong broke up again not long after.
Cheung said she and Tse got back together after filming Chen Kaige's The Promise last year. When the actress was in Shanghai recently promoting a mainland movie, she defended Tse, saying she wasn't being used by him. Tse has been accused of promoting himself through his love affairs. He confirmed his relationship with Cheung at the premiere of his new action movie, Tiger Dragon Gate, late last month.
'I'm not very bright,' Cheung told mainland media. 'But I'm not dumb either. If I love a man, I can tell if he's using me or Faye Wong to promote himself. Especially on the mainland, I don't think he needs to do this. In my eyes, Tse is perfect.'
