What is it?
A salon treatment for hair that needs more moisture and strength. Aveda describes it as a 'facial for your hair' and a 'spa-like experience'. It uses essential oils and plant ingredients, and is said to deliver up to 71 per cent more resistance to combing breakage and up to 71 per cent softer strands.
What was it like?
Extremely relaxing. I arrived late, stressed and soaked from the rain, but felt great within minutes. Senior stylist Glory Chan explains the treatment and checks whether your scalp is oily, dry or sensitive. Next, I was moved to a massage chair and given a 15 minute head, neck and shoulder rub, which really did the trick. Aveda says its Balancing Touch Massage aims to stimulate circulation and nourish the scalp.
The ingredients are massaged into your hair at this stage, and you get up looking like Phyllis Diller. Then comes an extensive shampoo - and more head massage. Next, your hair is wrapped in a towel and you're put under a steam heater for about 15 minutes to let the treatment do its thing. Chan then gave me a blow-dry.
Was anything not so good?
The pressure used for the head and neck massage could have been a little harder.
