Singer Andy Hui Chi-on's photo on his latest CD proves he'll no longer accept judging people by their appearances. The actor-singer said his role in a new television drama dealing with inner beauty has changed how he views and presents his image.
On his new album, In the Name Of, which was released yesterday, Hui said the cover portrait by New York-based photographer Leslie Kee had no computer enhancements, so the minor blemishes on his face were visible. 'If you look at it very carefully, you'll see many lines and spots. It's quite obvious,' he said. 'When you get older, you don't care about this so much. I just want to move people with my songs.'
The singer has recently completed filming for a TVB sitcom in which his character falls in love with a chubby woman (Myolie Wu Hang-yee).
The original idea for the CD cover idea was a semi-naked Hui. 'I took those photos in March because I knew that I wouldn't have time to do it when I was shooting the TV drama series. It's a shame that we can't use them on this album.'
Before filming, he underwent a three-week intensive weight-training course. 'It was just like how I trained before concerts,' he said. 'Although we're not going to use the photos, I'll keep them at home and take them out to appreciate when I get old.'
Hui performs three concerts next week with Super World Orchestra in Japan.
