Where?

A group of eight uninhabited islands located in the East Asia Sea, currently administered by Japan, but also claimed by China and Taiwan.

What?

What is all the fuss about? A survey in 1968 found potential oil fields in the East China Sea, drawing attention to the islands. China and Taiwan subsequently pressed their claims of sovereignty over them and Japan responded by counter-claiming the islands.

Why?

Why are the Diaoyus in the news again? A group of Hong Kong activists set off for the disputed islands on Sunday to mark the 10th anniversary of the death of David Chan who drowned on the first expedition.
