Ko YinG-SZE'S naive face belies her extraordinary intellectual capacity. Having skipped two primary years, the 13-year-old is now a Form Four student at HKCCCU Logos Academy in Sai Kung.

Acknowledging that primary studies bored her, she said she hoped to follow in the footsteps of celebrity teen inventor, Chan Yik-hei, and enter university as soon as possible.

Ying-sze is one of the homegrown gifted students Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen pledged to nurture in his recently released policy address.

To boost the development of gifted education, Mr Tsang announced the establishment of an academy for gifted students, providing training to talented 10 to 18-year-olds in the fields of arts, music, astronomy and other subjects.

Aware of the potential of smart local children, the government has provided tailor-made training for gifted students since the 1990s.
