Jazz guitarist Pao to play DJ

Normally he lets his guitar do the talking, but come Sunday night, jazzman Eugene Pao (right) will say it himself as the host of RTHK Radio 4's Jazzing Up. In the tradition of the programme, various prominent local musicians have been asked to spin their favourite jazz selections in the 11pm time slot. So, for the next nine weeks or so, it will be DJ Pao as he returns for a third stint.

'A bunch of people have done it,' Pao says. 'Angelita Li, Allen Youngblood, Elaine Liu and others. I was the first host. It's great fun. Radio 4 is more artsy, so I don't have to worry about commercial appeal. I just play what I am inspired by - more hardcore and cutting-edge music.'

It's a good thing he doesn't have to rely on the public broadcaster's music library for inspiration. 'I think I have a bigger library than RTHK. Everything I play is from my own collection,' he says.

Depending on where you live, Radio 4 is either at FM97.6 or 98.9.
