A group of trainee teachers from the Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) sent Christmas cards and their warmest greetings to the children they met last summer in Thailand.
In July 2006, 12 trainee teachers went to Khao Lak, one of the hardest hit regions in the December 25, 2004 catastrophe.
The seven-day trip was a sobering experience for the participants who organised English classes and various activities for 400 Thai children.
With the memory of the Asian tsunami etched in their minds, some children have developed a gloomy outlook.
'In a drawing session, a small boy drew a grave on the paper. His parents died in the disaster and he was still suffering from the loss,' said one of the trainee teachers, Wong Lai-shan.
As the second anniversary of the Boxing Day catastrophe approached, the 12 trainee teachers wanted to send their greetings to the children in Thailand.
