Fifty business students from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) have joined a banking course to learn about the inner workings of the financial sector.
Co-organised by Citibank and HKU's Faculty of Business and Economics, the University of Hong Kong - Citibank University Banking Course 2006-2007 has invited banking veterans to host lectures for the students.
From now until April, the students will learn financial concepts, such as risk management, treasury cycles, credit card management and marketing strategies for banks.
At the launch ceremony last week, graduates of last year's scheme were invited to share what they had gained from the course.
Kathy Ma King-fan, 21, said the scheme had given her valuable insights into the banking industry.
'All the lectures were hosted by experienced Citibank staff. They shared with us how they conducted business for the bank and dealt with their clients. We could never learn such practical knowledge from textbooks,' said the Year Three business student.
Ms Ma had to complete a group project at the end of the three-month course.
