Leung Ting-yuen, 52, met a group of 11 hikers at Lung Cheung Mall in Wong Tai Sin at 9am.

They began their hike at the entrance to Lion Rock Country Park but, as the group climbed near the lion's tail, Leung collapsed after complaining of feeling sick.

A teammate rang for help at 10.45am and a Government Flying Service helicopter took Leung, a construction site foreman, to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11.54am.

Leung's teammates said he frequently hiked with his wife but also suffered from heart problems.
