The four-door sedan, driven by the 36-year-old father, was travelling in the middle lane heading towards the New Territories.

Police said the driver lost control of the vehicle near Siu Lam at about 6.30pm.

A police source said the boy, who was too young to put in a baby seat, was sitting on his 34-year-old mother's lap in the back seat when the accident happened. Both adults were wearing seatbelts.

The three were trapped in the car. Firefighters got them out and they were taken to Tuen Mun Hospital, where the baby and mother were declared dead.
