At Shanghai Tang's spring-summer show on Tuesday night at Lumiere restaurant, the label lived up to its name with a collection inspired specifically by the city of Shanghai. In addition to the usual mandarin collars and cheongsam influences, the most striking pieces were mini-dresses decorated with a silhouette of the Pudong skyline.
The mainland model invasion also continued on the catwalk. Besides recent tabloid favourite Lynn Xiong Dai-lin - whose fling with Aaron Kwok Fu-shing may or may not be over, if it ever existed - the newest catwalk upstart to come into the spotlight of Hong Kong media attention was Beijing native Liu Dan, who is featured prominently on the label's new catalogue as well as making appearances in French and Italian fashion bibles Vogue and Elle.
Off the runway, the statuesque model is a more timid creature. When pressed by the paparazzi about her personal life, Liu (pictured with her mother) demurely piped: 'Oh, you'll have to ask my mum.' How quaint. What's that Britney song: not a girl, not yet a woman?
