After dabbling with big-budget Hollywood in The Painted Veil, Anthony Wong Chau-sang (above )is turning socialist for his next movie. He will play a Marxist Chinese patriot in Samson Chiu Leung-chun's project Call Him Mr Left. It's a cinematic commemoration of the handover's 10th anniversary, depicting the lives of Hong Kong people over the past four decades.
'I am playing a [left-wing] Hongkonger in the 1960s. It's about the relationship he has with his wife (Teresa Mo Shun-kwan) and son (Ronald Cheng Chung-kei) and his dream [to travel to the mainland],' Wong said. 'Though it isn't a big-budget movie, the script is brilliantly written.' It will reportedly also star Karen Mok Man-wai and is due out in June. In the movie, the city's historical changes are seen through the eyes of Wong's character, a lowly film projectionist.
After this, Wong also has roles booked until the end of this year, but what he's really looking forward to are several projects he's initiating, with the possibility of helming them. 'I've just started some talks,' he confirmed. 'I have two stories in mind and I want to be the director. In the meantime, I am looking for someone to write me the script, but all this would only happen next year.'
