Boxing legend in town to land promo punch for lean machine
'I want to team up with another champion.' That's the reason boxing great George Foreman gave for recruiting Jackie Chan to help him pitch his 'lean, mean fat-reducing grilling machine' yesterday at a press conference at The Peninsula hotel. The punching preacher has joined forces with the action ambassador specifically to hawk the griller on the mainland, including shooting a TV advert while here. So far the slanted grill, which allows fat to drip off, thus reducing cholesterol, has sold more than 100 million units around the world.
For his first visit to Hong Kong - joined by his son George - the former champ trotted out his promo punch like a seasoned contender. 'I lost to Muhammad Ali because I ate greasy food. I had no energy and he said in the ring, 'Is that all you got?' and that was all I got.' Foreman then claimed eating better is what turned around his boxing career.
It was also a great move financially, as he ended up making more money selling the grill than fighting. Foreman said he still worked out, training hard, to this day. 'Actually, my profession is evangelist preacher. Boxing is my hobby.'
