Students have designed a series of informative websites to raise people's awareness of cervical cancer.

Sponsored by Merck Sharp & Dohme (Asia), the Inter-School Cervical Cancer Web Design Competition received entries from more than 100 schools. The websites give facts about the disease in an interesting way, helping to attract young people's attention.

'Many young people don't think about cervical cancer,' said Lilian Chan, executive secretary of Cancer Crusade Angels Service Society of Hong Kong.

'In the talks we held at local schools, many students said they found the information boring and irrelevant to them.

'However, contrary to popular belief, women who have sexual experience at a young age can also be at risk as the disease has an incubation period of up to 10 years.

'We hope that the competition can make students more aware of the disease.'
