He's been doing the rounds for 20 years now, but versatile Taiwanese singer-songwriter Harlem Yu Chen-chin is finally performing his first solo concerts in Hong Kong.

The shows are the first stop on Yu's world tour to mark his two decades in the industry. The singer, once named the most outstanding Asian singer-composer at the Billboard Music Awards, is known for his emotional vocals and ability to reinterpret different styles, from pop to R&B, rock ballads, disco and punk.

Now with more than 20 records under his belt, Yu became the first Taiwanese singer to be invited by MTV Asia to play an unplugged show for global viewers in 1996. His latest record, last year's Addicted, is his first album in three years, coming after Harlem's Heaven.

The 45-year-old released his debut, Heartbroken Singer, in 1986 and it sold more than 100,000 copies. Yu wrote, arranged and produced all the songs on the album, a first for Taiwan's music industry. Several were covered by Canto-pop king Jacky Cheung Hok-yau - who may be a guest performer at the Hong Kong concerts. Yu's big breakthrough came in 1989 with Let Me Love You Enough Once. The record sold 400,000 copies and the title track was covered by Cheung, further establishing Yu's name locally.
