What is it?
A beauty brand established in 1991. It's not based on creams and lotions, but supplements taken in pill form. All tablets contain the brand's Biomarine Complex, which is a natural marine extract rich in protein and polysaccharides similar to those found in the skin's dermal supportive tissue, according to the company. The tablets are made by Ferrosan, a Danish healthcare company just outside Copenhagen. Ferrosan has been developing and manufacturing pharmaceuticals, herbal medicines and dietary supplements since 1920. The company is now represented in more than 70 countries.
What's the spin?
Ferrosan says independent clinical and scientific studies confirm that the components in Imedeen Classic - a new version of the original - significantly improve the skin's moisture balance, visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduce the visibility of dilated capillaries and age spots and leave skin looking brighter, more even and youthful. The biomarine complex in Imedeen Classic has had vitamin C and zinc added. These help the formation of collagen and skin-tissue renewal. The company says two tablets daily enhance skin quality and optimise moisture levels in 12 weeks. The Classic costs HK$460 for 60 tablets. Hong Kong actress Jessica Hester Hsuan was appointed Imedeen spokeswoman in March.
What else does it have?
Imedeen Time Perfection capsules (HK$670/60 tablets) are said to protect and improve the skin. The company says it uses a complex called LycoPhence GS, an anti-oxidant derived from specially grown tomatoes and grape seed extracts that 'creates a shield' to help guard against degradation of collagen and elastin fibres. . The Time Perfection is for women aged 35-50, and a new product, Prime Renewal, is for women over 50. For those who can't bear the thought of taking pills every day, Imedeen also has a range of external skincare products, with a serum, day and night and eye creams under the Line Control range.
