A last-minute entry into the Cannes Film Festival, which starts tomorrow, is the local film Triangle, a triptych jointly directed by veterans Johnnie To Kei-fung (below left), Ringo Lam Ling-tung (centre) and Tsui Hark.

It seems the movie, which has only just been finished, sneaked in under the wire after receiving the OK from mainland censors. (Because some of its financing comes from the mainland, it must receive Beijing's approval before being shown overseas.)

The caper is about three friends in search of treasure, and it stars Louis Koo Tin-lok, Simon Yam Tat-wah and Sun Hong-lei. Each director was responsible for one part. It also is the only Cantonese-language flick at Cannes this year; Wong Kar-wai's My Blueberry Nights is entirely in English.

'I am thrilled that I can team up with my two pals at Cannes this year and I am going to go drinking all three nights and get drunk,' To said. The three began together at TVB. Triangle will premiere at the festival in the south of France next Friday as part of the Midnight Screenings section.

To recently split from long-time business partner Dennis Law Sau-yiu and bought back the production end of their company, Milkyway, for HK$26 million.
