Makeup artist offers tips on being yourself in glittering new season
'Be yourself' was the dress code on Thursday night, but for most of the socialites attending cosmetics brand Bobbi Brown's Be Who You Are party at new club M88, being themselves still meant low-cut tops, miniskirts and shiny tight pants. Obviously, being themselves still takes hours for these ladies.
Sure, it defeats the whole point of the night, but it didn't stop Singaporean makeup guru Zing Wong (pictured) from demonstrating his tips for people to emphasise their own personality. With large sunglasses, a giant diamond-stud earring and necklace, Wong hardly screams 'comfortable in sweats homebody', but his makeup tricks are certainly interesting (he is seen here applying eye-shadow to a model's lip). 'I never limit myself by applying one type of makeup on one specific area,' he said. 'The result is what matters.'
Having created stylish looks for stars like Shu Qi, Carina Lau Ka-ling and Karen Mok Man-wai, Wong is also wise enough not to reveal which celebrities act like divas when being themselves. 'You know I never answer those sorts of questions,' he chided. 'I'd say I am the toughest person to work with. The artists trust me a lot and I also respond to the suggestions they give me.'
Maybe we'll just settle for his tips for the season then. 'Go for metallic colours, in particular gold and silver, with a late 1970s, early 1980s vintage look.'
