Mercury hits 34.5 degrees

The heatwave continued yesterday as the temperature topped 34.5 degrees Celsius at 4pm at Tai Po and Lau Fau Shan in the New Territories. The Observatory issued a Very Hot Weather Warning at 2.20pm to alert the public of a high risk of heatstroke. A female cleaner at Sha Tin racecourse fell sick at 11.30am, while a man was overwhelmed by the heat when working outdoors in Monmouth Terrace, Wan Chai, at noon. A 13-year-old girl fainted on her way to the book fair in Wan Chai. They were fine after treatment.
