TVB has secured three nominations for the International Emmy Awards - a first for a Hong Kong broadcaster.
Its Sunday Report: Give Us a Hand! Help Us Lie! was nominated under the current affairs category, the broadcaster said yesterday.
The story focuses on how the local government in Changchun, Jilin province, co-ordinated with villagers to stage a 'tour' for a blind eight-year-old village girl to make her dream - a visit to Tiananmen Square - come true.
Also nominated was Charmaine Sheh Si-man for best actress for her performance in the prime-time drama series, Dance Of Passion, first broadcast on TVB Jade in April last year. And Bobby Au Yeung Chun-wah was nominated for best actor for his role in the drama series Dicey Business, shown in November.
The awards, which are regarded as the Oscars for the international television industry, honour the best television programmes produced and initially aired outside the US. There are eleven categories.
'Being nominated is a great encouragement,' said Tsang Sing-ming, TVB's external affairs assistant controller. 'This implies our production standard has won international recognition.'
