South China blend it like Beckham in Armani gear
Soccer and fashion do not just come together for David Beckham. The players of South China Athletic Association are also blending superb playing skills with fashionable gear. At a press conference on Friday, the team looked remarkably smart as fashion house Giorgio Armani announced it would sponsor the club's off-field wardrobe.
For a local pro like Cheng Siu-wai - often called the Thierry Henry of Hong Kong - a HK$12,640 suit is normally way out of the league. 'I look good, right?' Cheng (below) asked rhetorically. 'But being a soccer player, of course, my soccer outfit is still the most comfortable clothes of all.
'I think the local soccer scene has revived and having an international label sponsor us with a new set of clothes does boost the team's image.
'I really hope one day the local soccer scene will get as much support from fans as players do in the English Premier League.'
