It appears that one of the world's best-known city restaurant guides is coming to this part of the globe. The Zagat guidebook, which was launched in New York in the late 1970s, will soon be coming out with an Asian edition.

The guide gives ratings by using diners' surveys to gauge each eatery. In some of the world's more sophisticated cities, it is the final world on fine restaurants.

Since August 3, it has been seeking local food patrons to rate dining, drinking and shopping establishments in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing.

Anyone can take part, you just need to register at www.zagat.com/china. The deadline for all surveys for the first book is September 23. Those who take part will be offered a copy of the guidebook.

Let's just hope they include our popular local noodle dives, as well as the fancy five-star outlets.
