Braveheart chic leaves fashionistas speechless

You can always expect some surprises at a Jean Paul Gaultier fashion show. For its fall/winter show on Wednesday, they booked the mannered manor Helena May on Garden Road which quickly filled up with the usual hipsters, tai tais and the three flamboyant members of Grasshopper.

As the lights dimmed, five Chinese men dressed in full Scottish highland regalia marched out wailing Amazing Grace on bagpipes. They had the crowd speechless to say the least.

Then, as the models came out, it all made sense - the season's theme is tartans and Braveheart chic, with lots of faux Mohawks and feathers.

If William Wallace fought against the Matrix instead of the English, this is what he would have worn.

Two top Gaultier executives, president Christophe Caillaud and worldwide retail director Alessandro Ferreri, even flew in to catch the local presentation.

Another former Gaultier employee was also eager to show up. Regina Lam, who used to run the label's Southeast Asia operation, dropped in to say hi to her former bosses - and brought along her new boss, Didier Drouet of Emilio Pucci.

Lam jumped ship a month or so ago to lead the Italian label's expansion across Asia. There were no hard feelings involving Lam's departure, but when asked if they missed her, Caillaud oddly replied: 'Not yet.'

I suppose you can't miss someone if they don't go away.
