It seems being TVB's general manager is not enough for Stephen Chan Chi-wan. Beyond running the station from his desk at Tseung Kwan O, Chan stepped in front of the camera about a year ago to host the Be My Guest talk show on one of the network's pay channels.
Now, he is reaping the rewards of recognition as luxury men's shoe brands, such as Berluti, invite him to model their footwear. This was the case on Friday at a Harbour City store opening. As the unlikely celebrity revelled in the spotlight, he tried to argue that he never really considered going in front of the camera a career move. 'I didn't really like it much,' he said. 'When you are known, you start to have paparazzi and the press following you wherever you go, so you don't have much privacy.'
Chan is not a complete novice as a media presenter. He was moonlighting at RTHK while putting in days at the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority. Chan then moved to Commercial Radio before climbing the ladder at TVB. 'If you have a passion for something, why not try it when you are still young?'
