A traditional New Territories house has been given a 21st-century make-over, transforming it into a relaxing retreat and perfect family home.

John and Mary Loccisano's plan was to find a traditional three-storey village house and turn it into a comfortable family abode suited to informal entertaining. When the couple were shown what would become their home in Clear Water Bay, John was not impressed but Mary immediately recognised the building's potential.

With three small children to accommodate, Mary wanted family space on every floor while John wanted a relaxing retreat in a top-of-the line smart home.

Both are avid film and music fans and love to open their home to friends.

The couple compiled an extensive but practical wish-list before approaching designer Warren Foster-Brown of FBEYE International (22A Mosque Street, Singapore, tel: 65 6325 9980) and contractors Choi Designs (room 408, Dominion Centre, 43 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai, tel: 2866 0781). Within a year, the couple had transformed the house, expanding it from 2,100 sq ft to 3,150 sq ft, and changing everything about it except the trees and the ceramic bamboo balustrade in front of the property.

They chose a mostly white colour scheme for a cool feeling and clean look. Exceptions are feature walls in each of the children's bedrooms (the colours were chosen by a fung shui consultant), the dark wood on the staircase and the wooden ceiling in the dining area.
