World renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma visited a primary school in Tin Shui Wai as part of a music and cultural exchange programme last week, giving students the opportunity to enjoy a world-class musical performance.
The programme was organised by Silk Road Project.
Sponsored by American Express, Silk Road Project was set up by Ma to promote musical appreciation around the world.
Joined by more than 20 internationally-respected musicians from Silk Road Project, Yo-Yo Ma performed at the Hong Kong Student Aid Society Primary School in Tin Shui Wai as part of a China tour which includes concerts in Shanghai, Suzhou and Beijing.
Many of the 600 primary school students had never attended a live musical performance and were enthralled by the performance.
The ensemble played traditional instruments such as the cello and violin in combination with ethnic drums, the music was also an innovative blend of classical and indigenous tribal music.
