Two radio show hosts from Radio Television Hong Kong are facing fraud charges in which they are alleged to have cheated the government out of scriptwriting and research fees with bogus claims.
Chan King-chong, 40, also a producer, faces 10 counts of using a document with intent to deceive his principal under the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance and two counts of conspiracy to defraud. He was arrested early this year.
He will appear in Kowloon City Court on Monday, according to the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
Chan allegedly dishonestly used payment request forms purporting to show his mother had provided scriptwriting services to the government-funded broadcaster with the intent to deceive it. He also allegedly conspired to defraud RTHK by falsely claiming that his mother and another person had provided services as an artist, as well as scriptwriting and research services.
The anti-graft body said the offences took place between October 2000 and February 2002, resulting in RTHK having paid HK$93,900.
In a separate case, Vera Lee, 35, better known as La La Lam - a disc jockey and producer - has been charged with pocketing scriptwriting and research fees - totalling HK$18,900 - between May and August 2001, and handling illegal proceeds.
