Ten arty designs to pull over your head in honour of first 10 years of the SAR
As if we needed more reminding, this is the 10th anniversary of the handover. The latest group to celebrate is the Hong Kong Design Centre. Its 9707 exhibition is running at the Harbour City mall. For the SAR's birthday, the group wanted to honour the achievements of the local design industry by commissioning 10 artists and designers, local and international, to create a T-shirt offering their interpretation of a vibrant Hong Kong.
Among the contributors are shoe designer Jimmy Choo, architect Zaha Hadid and British designer Zandra Rhodes. The local designers include branding guru Tommy Li Wing-chuen, Zuni Icosahedron director Danny Yung Ning-tsun and fashion designer Vivienne Tam (left), who also curated the project. Her tee (right) consists of an image of a silver ox and a golden pig.
'A silver ox relates to the steadfast and industrious commitment of those living and working in 1997, while a golden pig is a metaphor for a prosperous Hong Kong now reaping the fruits of this labour,' Tam said of her creation.
The shirts will be on display until Friday at Harbour City and they are on sale at Vivienne Tam, G.O.D., Log-On, Design Gallery and Harvey Nichols for HK$298. They come with a special designer sketchbook while stocks last. The profits will support local design education.
