Shu Qi a porn star! What will the UK tabloids think of next?
One of the more curious stories over the holidays was an English tabloid suggesting actress Shu Qi had been canoodling with Hugh Grant at a Japanese restaurant in London before Christmas. What made the Daily Mirror's copy even more salacious was that it referred to her as a 'porn star' and that the pair were 'kissing passionately'. A few days later, it even ran another piece using a picture of Shu Qi, this time calling her an 'ex-porn star'.
Well, it seems the Mirror got its facts wrong. It turns out the Taiwan-born actress (pictured) was in Hong Kong when the supposed tryst occurred and she was even photographed at a charity event the same evening. In a Xinhua Newsnet article, Shu Qi said: 'I haven't been to England in five years. I have never even met Hugh Grant. I think his acting is OK but I don't have any [attraction] for him.'
The Mirror eventually did apologise for accusing her of snogging Grant. 'We have since learned that Shu Qi was not the woman in the restaurant ... We are happy to correct our mistake and apologise for the error.'
However, it seems the paper stands by its description of her. Shu Qi was silly to disrobe in a couple of her early movies and photo shoots, but calling her a porn star is a stretch. We think she should consider legal action.
