Jacky Cheung Hok-yau really wanted to sing at the public memorial service for Lydia Sum Tin-ha (also known as Lydia Shum) at the Coliseum on Saturday, but unfortunately, Chinese tradition meant he couldn't. Four days after Fei Fei's death, Cheung's 99-year-old grandmother also died. Since you're not supposed to bring the bad vibe from one event to another, the sorrowful Cheung couldn't attend the services for both his relative and his good friend.

The singer spoke of his losses at a charity event at Kowloon Hotel's Seibu on Wednesday. 'I feel empty. I feel that there are so many things that are out of our control,' he said as his eyes watered. 'Lydia's death is a great loss for Hong Kong and she was a role model for artists like me.'

The entertainer regained his composure to kick off Seibu and Make A Wish Hong Kong's 'Give Me A Hug' teddy bear campaign. The charity hopes to raise funds by selling 27 pairs of celebrity-designed cuddly toys at HK$1,888 per pair. The father of two was also cheered considerably by four child ballet dancers at the event, making him even more sentimental about his own children. 'After all that has happened, I only wish for good health.'
