The schools have been closed since March 13 to prevent the spread of flu and it was decided that they would remain closed until at least Monday week.

Secretary for Food and Health York Chow Yat-ngok said yesterday that the number of flu cases remained high.

But the number of children being treated in hospital because of flu complications had dropped slightly and the figure was similar to those in previous peak flu seasons. 'We feel that the schools can resume after the Easter holidays,' the minister said.

'The important thing is that after the holidays our schools would like to have some guidelines on when they should close in the future and what advice to give to parents and children.

'My only important advice for parents is keep your children at home if they have fever or any serious symptoms of flu, so that they will not infect other kids.'
