More than 400 students with excellent results in the HKCEE were admitted to university under the Early Admission Scheme (EAS).

The top 420 HKCEE scorers will be allowed to skip Form Seven and start their university courses in September.

Of the 170 EAS students admitted by the University of Hong Kong (HKU), 69 scored eight As or above. With a wide range of top academic disciplines on offer, HKU is very popular among outstanding students.

Jacqueline Lam Hoi-man was one of the EAS students who entered HKU last year. The 19-year-old said bypassing Form Seven allowed her to taste university life earlier.

'I have always wanted to study law. I'm so glad that I can realise my dream early,' said Ms Lam.

When comparing secondary and university lifestyles, she said the freewheeling university ambience allowed her creativity to blossom. 'Secondary school teachers can be quite restrictive, but the university provides a free environment for us to pursue our academic interests,' she explained.
