Understanding wife essential for actor's risque movie scenes
In some ways, Wong Jing movies really epitomise regular Hong Kong. They're crass, ribald affairs that are never too sophisticated and always aimed at an audience that wouldn't know how to apply the lowest common denominator in a maths equation.
His latest quickie release, My Wife is a Gambling Maestro, premiered on Monday, starring Wong's newest sexpot discovery, Shanghainese actress Natalie Meng Yao, and veteran actor Nick Cheung Ka-fai (pictured together). The comedy's title pretty much says it all, and not surprisingly, Cheung has a couple of risque scenes with his co-star. Luckily for Cheung, his actress wife Ester Kwan Wing-ho is very understanding.
'She is okay about it. There are always good-looking actresses in the films that I act in anyway, so I can't really avoid it,' Cheung said before the premiere at Langham Place.
However, Cheung admitted he might not be so sympathetic and tolerant if the roles were reversed. 'I think I would mind if she did the same thing with another male actor. I think I am quite old fashioned and I am a traditional Chinese man. Even if she does act in some intimate scenes with other actors, I think I'd rather not watch it.' My Wife is a Gambling Maestro opens tomorrow.
