Modern British eatery SoHo SoHo just can't seem to find a happy home. After bouncing around several Mid-Levels locations, it appeared the decade-old restaurant was finally going to settle down at its current Arbuthnot Road abode.
In fact, they celebrated a 10th anniversary bash and official opening in the new location in June. But just as the staff and its customers were getting comfortable with the venue, its management, the HK Dining Group, just learned they will have to close up for about a couple of months as structural engineering work has been ordered on the building.
'The Buildings Department is forcing us - actually our landlord - to do some major repairs,' said manager Phil Murphy. 'All along one side is the ceiling-to-floor windows and they need to be fixed. It wasn't a problem before and I don't know the technical explanation, but I think at some place in Causeway Bay the whole window fell out and could have hurt someone. So now the Buildings Department is requiring lots of older Central buildings to fix their windows.'
As a result SoHo SoHo is exiled to homelessness again. 'It's just one of those things. I am not hopeful it will be a quick job so it'll probably be more like two months. We're talking to the contractors now.'
The restaurant will have to close its doors again on August 24, so the temporary last meal is this Sunday's brunch.
