Although they still haven't brought the clothing line to the city, Banana Republic is going all out to launch six fragrances - three for men and three for women. The American brand, or at least its licensee DNA Beaute, splashed out for the Peninsula's Garden Suite yesterday afternoon to unveil the scents at a media event. In attendance was chief executive Maria Norrman (left), who delivered the perfume sales pitch to perfunctory perfection.
'Fragrance accentuates your personality or the mood you are in,' Norrman said. 'If you want a romantic mood, you put on a romantic fragrance.
'It's the same if you want to be active and outgoing, you put on a sporty fragrance.
'Scent is part of our five senses. Just as we remember things from the visual or when you hear music and you'll remember something. It evokes memories and associations. You connect memories to fragrances.'
However, with various floral mists sprayed throughout the suite, we had a hard time remembering which smell was which from this Discover Collection.
As for the theory that you're not supposed to put perfume directly on your skin but spray it in the air and walk into it, Norrman the traditionalist disagrees.
