Could Zhang Ziyi be Asia's answer to Meg Ryan?

Zhang Ziyi has certainly been no crouching tiger or hidden dragon when it comes to her global domination plans. From humble Beijing acting school roots, she now has a Hong Kong ID card, a business partner in Wendi Deng and an Israeli billionaire boyfriend named Vivi Nevo. But is the ambitious Zhang looking to become Asia's Meg Ryan too?

Her latest career announcement was made at the Pusan International Film Festival a couple of days ago. Apparently, Zhang has just signed on with Korean film group CJ Entertainment to star in a romantic comedy called Sofie's Revenge. The actress will play a jilted girlfriend trying to exact a little you-know-what from her ex. Although it's still in the preliminary stage of production, with no director or male lead cast yet, it's suggested the film will be in Putonghua. The producers are also looking for an 'A-list' Korean star to play opposite Zhang.

'Romantic comedy with big stars like Zhang Ziyi is not an established genre in China and we look forward to a successful collaboration,' a CJ Entertainment executive told trade magazine Variety at the festival party to detail the project.

Working for Koreans is obviously nothing new for the international Chinese star. She was featured in My Wife Is a Gangster 2 in 2003 and 2001's Musa The Warrior. The feature is expected to start shooting this year on the mainland.
