Deal frees starlet from Emperor Group fold
A legal battle between actress-singer Isabella Leong Lok-sze and Emperor Entertainment Group over a breach of contract claim has ended in an out-of-court settlement, with the 20-year-old starlet 'free to pursue her career'.
In a statement released last night on the eve of a scheduled court hearing, a publicity firm representing Leong said solicitors Arculli, Fong and Ng had on her behalf settled the legal proceedings with Emperor Entertainment (Hong Kong) and Trump Art on Saturday.
It said: 'Ms Leong is completely free to pursue her career as she wishes,' and added 'as part of the settlement, Isabella is receiving a reasonable payment from Trump Art'.
EEG filed a writ in the High Court on April 3 seeking damages from Leong for breaking contracts and a court order forcing her to perform her duties. Leong filed a writ against EEG on April 27, contesting the 10-year recording and management deal her mother made with the group on her behalf when she was only 12.
Leong's counter-claim said the contracts were unenforceable and contained conditions that were unconscionable.
A one-day hearing was scheduled today in the Court of First Instance for argument from both sides.
