Directed and written by Jeff Lowell, Over Her Dead Body features a love triangle with a twist. Unfortunately, the film's interesting premise is undermined by its limp jokes and weak plot.

In this lacklustre romantic comedy, Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria Parker plays Kate, a dead but vindictive bride-to-be.

A year after Kate is killed in a freak accident with an ice sculpture, her genial former fiancee Henry (played by the charming Paul Rudd) is still in mourning and resigned to a loveless life.

To help him move on, his sister Chloe (Lindsay Sloane) persuades Ashley, an amiable psychic played by Lake Bell, to trick Henry.

After convincing him that Kate wants him to find love again, Ashley makes a pass at Henry. However, when the pair begin to fall for each other, the spiteful Kate does everything in her power to drive Ashley away.

Although much of the movie is devoted to the cruel pranks the ghost plays, these provide little comic relief. Enjoying top billing in her big-screen debut, Longoria Parker is believable as the shrill shrew back from the afterlife and determined to take revenge. Rudd, who gets the only worthwhile lines in an otherwise dumb movie, is mesmerising. But all this glittering star power does nothing to fill the glaring hole in the film's plot - why would the friendly Henry have wanted to marry Kate in the first place?
