More than 30 primary students have come up with creative designs to transform decrepit historic buildings into fascinating landmarks in a heritage conservation education programme organised by 19 Baptist University students.

Funded by the Chinese Young Men's Christian Association, 'Matches - Exploring the City Treasure', the four-month programme features talks, workshops and a guided tour of historic buildings on Hong Kong Island.

The programme, which ends this week, aimed to strengthen primary students' understanding of heritage conservation. Yu Sze-long, a Year Two communications student, said the primary students showed great creativity in producing colourful paintings to depict how historic structures such as Central Market could be transformed.

Li cheuk-yan, a primary six student from Po Leung Kuk Siu Hon Sum Primary School, would like to transform the Victoria Prison into a quaint hotel to let visitors taste the experience of being locked up.

'There are not many hotels in Central and the experience of staying behind bars will be interesting to visitors,' he said.
