Star's kidney bean tribute a Sunny treat
You can't ever say pop star Jason Mraz isn't up for a good dare. Prior to his Monday evening concert, the American singer hosted a pre-gig press conference at Club JJ's. In addition to the usual enquiries about his CD and his thoughts on Hong Kong, Young Post reporter Sunny Tse challenged him to write a song using the words 'kidney beans', which happens to be Tse's nickname. Apparently Mraz wrote nearly half of his latest recording, We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things, in this way with friends throwing word challenges at him.
Mraz took out his notebook, jotted it down and replied he'd accept the challenge, and would play something later that night in concert. True to his words, in a prelude to the song You And I Both, the singer said, 'This is for a friend of mine I met today. This is for Sunny.' Then he launched into a short ditty that included the words kidney beans emphasised at the end of a verse. The crowd cheered loudly, but not as loud as a certain reporter covering the show.
